🍗 Ingredients for Oven-Baked BBQ Chicken
For the Chicken Marinade:
- 4–5 chicken thighs
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional for umami boost)
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp sugar
- 2–3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
- ½ tsp black pepper
- A splash of water to thin the marinade if needed
For the Glaze (Optional):
- 1 tbsp teriyaki sauce
- 1 tsp honey
- 1 tsp soy sauce
Debone the Chicken Thighs
Place your chicken thighs on a clean board, skin-side down. Using kitchen shears or a small, sharp utensil, gently cut along the sides of the bone. Work slowly and with care to lift out the bone while keeping the meat whole—this helps the chicken cook evenly and stay juicy. Don’t worry if it’s not perfect; just take your time and do your best!

Make the Marinade
In a mixing bowl, add soy sauce, rice vinegar, oyster sauce, honey, sugar, freshly grated garlic and ginger, and a pinch of black pepper. Whisk it all together until the mixture looks smooth and glossy. This marinade brings the perfect balance of sweet, salty, tangy, and umami-rich flavors—exactly what you need to make your BBQ chicken wings mouthwatering and bold.

Get the Chicken Oven-Ready
Once your chicken has marinated and soaked in all the flavor, it’s time to prepare for baking. Take each piece out of the bowl and place it neatly on a wire rack over a baking tray lined with foil. This helps the heat circulate the chicken, making the outside beautifully sticky and slightly charred while the inside stays juicy. Don’t pour the marinade over the top we want that caramelized finish, not soggy skin!

Bake to Sticky, Juicy Perfection
Pop the tray into a preheated oven at 200°C (392°F). Bake the chicken for 30–35 minutes, flipping each piece halfway through for even cooking. For that mouthwatering caramelized finish, brush a mixture of teriyaki sauce, honey, and soy sauce over the chicken during the final 5 minutes of baking.
Once it’s done, remove from the oven and let the chicken rest for about 5 minutes before serving. This helps lock in the juices and makes every bite tender and flavorful.

Plate & Serve
Plate your BBQ chicken with a generous helping of steamed white rice. Drizzle any remaining glaze or tangy dipping sauce on top—or serve it on the side for that extra punch of flavor. Add a sprinkle of freshly chopped herbs for a burst of color and freshness. Serve with crisp cucumber on the side to balance the bold, saucy chicken with a cool, refreshing crunch.
